Honda Siel Cars India, leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, today announced a reduction in the price of its production models by Rs 19,000 to Rs 31,000, except the Honda CR-V, which is a fully imported unit.

The prices have been revised following the reduction in Central Value Added Tax (CENVAT). The new prices will be effective from December 8, 2008.

Commenting on duty reduction and other economic measures announced by the government on Sunday, Mr. M. Takedagawa, President & CEO, Honda Siel Cars India, said, “We welcome this move by the government. The reduction in duty will give the necessary boost to consumer demand and fuel growth in the Indian economy. We feel it will also arrest the negative growth in the automobile sector. We are happy to pass on the benefit of the duty reduction to our customers with immediate effect.”

HSCI was considering a price increase for Honda cars from January 2009, due to cost of imports because of the weakening of the rupee against dollar and Yen. While the price increase on all the production models has been postponed for the time being, the CR-V prices will be increase by at least Rs 1 lakh with effect from the first week of January 2009.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd, India’s largest passenger car exporter and the second largest car manufacturer, today announced that the special scheme for the state and central government employees which was launched during the month of October 2008, has been extended till November 2008 looking at the huge success of this scheme. HMIL sold 3000 units under the scheme, which is almost three times the normal month’s sale to government employees. Under the scheme, there are special pricing, attractive finance options etc to enable the government employees to own a Hyundai car.

In view of the fact that government employees are due to receive the arrears of their salaries after revision in the Sixth Pay Commission, the arrears can be utilised as down payment for purchase of the car and the revised salary increment will help them to accommodate their monthly EMI’s.

Hyundai has tie-ups with State Bank of India, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank to provide with attractive finance schemes for the government employees for their vehicle purchase. The promotional activities and State Bank of India’s active participation proved vital for the scheme’s success.

On the success of the scheme, Arvind Saxena, Sr. Vice-President for Marketing & Sales, HMIL, said: "We are pleased with the tremendous response that we have received from the Government Employees who undoubtedly feel that this is a good value for money option. We have extended the scheme as we feel that there are many people who fall under the scheme but have not been able to avail of this within the limited period of time”

The Company registered a Net Sales of Rs. 48,063 million (Net of Excise) during the second quarter (Q2) of fiscal 2008-09. The company had posted Net Sales of Rs. 45,297 million (Net of Excise) over the same period last year. Net sales reflected a growth of 6.1 per cent.

Net Profit for Q2 2008-09 was Rs. 2,961 million, as against Rs. 4,665 million in the same period last year. The reduction in Net Profit has been mainly due to a rise in material costs, adverse impact of currency changes and a higher provision for depreciation, owing to more stringent depreciation norms adopted by the company in March 2008.

First half

Net Sales (Net of Excise) for the first half (H1) of the fiscal (Apr-Sept 2008) were Rs. 95,373 million, a growth of 13 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year. Net Profit for H1 08-09 stood at Rs. 7,620 million, compared to Rs 9,661 million in the same period last year.

Maruti slashed the prices of a few models in February-end after the government diminished the excise duty on small cars to 12 percents from 16 percents.

Hyundai the second-biggest car maker and General Motors will review prices by the month-end while Honda has already raised Civic's; Mahindra & Mahindra has increased the prices of its vehicles by up to 2.5 percents during the last week.

Hi! Friends this is important information for all of you that if you are planning to buy any car in couple of month then please go ahead because the all makes are going to increase prices. So this is the right time for car buyers.

While no car company is categorical about how much they’ll raise prices, sources said they are thinking about a two to three per cent hike. This means, a Rs 3 lakh car could cost Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000 more.

Maruti Suzuki sources said the company plans to announce a hike soon, as is Honda. However, Honda officials said it was too early to comment. A Tata Motors spokesperson refused to say whether they would raise prices.

The price of cold rolled steel, used in car bodies, has risen by Rs 12,000 per tonne over the last year. Hot rolled steel, used in other parts, rose recently by Rs 5,000 a tonne.

At least Honda Siel Cars India today (22nd April-2008) said it will increase the prices of its two Sedans City and Civic between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 by next month.

A company official said the rising steel prices and other input costs have put immense pressure, which the company has been trying to absorb.

"But it has reached a stage where we have to pass on a part of it to the customers," the official said.

The quantum of increase could be between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 across different variants of the two models, the official said, adding the exact amount was being worked out.

Already two wheeler maker Hero Honda has officially announced a price hike of Rs 500-1,000 across its various products.

Actually many car experts says for car buyers that February mid to April mid are the best time for car purchase.
