Tata Motors celebrates the 10th anniversary of the launch of the Indica on December 30, 2008. To mark this milestone, a 10th Anniversary Limited Edition Indica Vista is being launched.

The car comes with an all new colour combination – Porcelain White with a Black roof. The exteriors wear alloy wheels, gold finished grill garnish, golden emblems & mascots and a specially designed number plate. The interiors have a more premium look and incorporate a new integrated music system, new seat fabrics in a double stitched pattern and subtle touches all around.

In the first decade, close to 940,000 Indicas have been produced and the platform has spawned off close to 1.2 million vehicles. The Indica has remained a bestseller throughout in the industry figuring in the top 3 selling list of cars for most of the years. It achieved a peak sale of 144,690 in 2006-07 and the new generation Indica Vista was launched in August this year to a continuing pull even in today’s depressed market conditions.

Effective December 8, the cut in prices are as follows:

Passenger Vehicles:
Passenger Cars (Indica and Indigo family): Between Rs. 12,000/- to Rs. 23,000/- depending on the model.

Medium &Heavy Commercial Vehicles: Between Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 60,000/-.

With the expectation that proposed government stimulus will cut excise duty, and in the hope that it will boost demand in a wary market, several major car companies have begum to announce huge discount offers. However, given the restricted availability of retail finances how effective this strategy to clear 2008 stock will be is yet to be seen.

Chosen site is at Sanand, near Ahmedabad
Tata Motors announced that the mother plant for the Nano will be relocated to Sanand in Gujarat.

The company had received overwhelming support from several states for relocating the plant. After examining various sites in these states and carefully evaluating offers from the respective governments, the company has concluded that the site at Sanand and the offer from the Gujarat Government is in the best interest of the project.

The integrated project, comprising the mother plant and the vendor park, will come up on an area of about 1100 acres. The plant, to begin with, will produce 250,000 cars per annum. The capacity is expandable up to 500,000 cars per annum. The project, including Tata Motors’ plant, vendor facilities and service providers, will together generate over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Speaking at the announcement, Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors, said, "The site in Gujarat, already under the possession of the state government, will help Tata Motors establish a new dedicated mother plant with the shortest possible time lag and least possible incremental project cost. This is Tata Motors’ maiden venture in Gujarat, and will broad-base the company’s manufacturing footprint. We are happy to contribute to Gujarat’s strong industrial progress by creating an auto cluster, which will have a cascading impact on the state’s economy.”

While awaiting the Sanand plant’s completion, Tata Motors will explore the possibility of manufacturing the Nano at its existing facilities at Pune and Pantnagar, and launch the car in the last quarter of this financial year.

Tata Motors announced the launch of three new fully loaded variants on its popular Tata Indigo CS range. The Tata Indigo CS - Compact Sedan, launched at the Auto Expo at New Delhi in January 2008, has received an overwhelming response from customers across the country making the Indigo range clock over 84% growth this fiscal at an average of 4400 units per month.

The new variants are the petrol GLX model and two diesel LX models - in the Turbo-charged Diesel with Intercooler and DICOR (Direct Injection Common Rail) engine options. All three models will offer front and rear powered windows, a rear windscreen defogger and central locking to enhance customer comfort and security. The exteriors of the car on these variants will sport classy looking body coloured rub-rails with chrome inserts and body coloured ORVMs (Outer Rear View Mirrors). The interiors - beige for petrol and charcoal black for diesel - will offer a new look front console. The premium seat fabric and sporty leather-wrapped steering wheel will further add to the plush feel inside the cabin.

The Indigo CS itself carries forward the cabin seating comfort and space package that is now closely associated with the Indigo range and a capacious 380-litre boot. Clever and efficient design has made it possible to encapsulate this entire package within the four metre length, making this car a complete package to address the combined demands of space and manoeuvrability in our congested cities.

These new variants have been attractively priced at Rs. 4.08 lakhs for the GLX, Rs. 4.63 lakhs for the LX TDi and Rs. 5.10 lakhs for the LX DiCOR model. The Indigo CS range starts at Rs. 3.74 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). All the newly introduced variants offer Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) and Power Steering as standard options along with body coloured bumpers. They will be available in a range of six colour shade options.

Tata Motors said on Thursday the Karnataka Government was willing to offer 1,000 acres of land and other incentives to the company if it had plans to relocate the Nano small car project to the State.

“We are actively looking at alternative sites,” the Tata Motors Managing Director, Mr Ravi Kant, told newspersons here after meeting the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa. “If we have to relocate, we will need to have 1,000 acres. It will be an integrated plant,” Mr Ravi Kant said.

Later, Mr Yeddyurappa told newspersons after a Cabinet meeting, that Tata Motors’ top executives had a meeting with him and he had extended all assistance and incentives if the company wished to relocate its Nano plant to Karnataka. “In case they want to shift, we will give them all support,” he said.

Preliminary stage

The Chief Minister, however, said that the talks were at a preliminary stage and Tata Motors officials had informed him that in case the company plans to shift out of West Bengal, it would consider Karnataka’s offer.

Tata Motors suspended construction work at the Nano small car plant in Singur, near Kolkata, on September 2 citing hostile environment at the site. The company had also said it was working out detailed plans to relocate the plant and machinery to another site.

The Trinamool Congress has been agitating demanding return of land to those farmers who were not willing to part with their land for the project. “We are watching the situation (in Singur) carefully,” Mr Ravi Kant said.

Tata Motors had earlier indicated that it was planning to set up assembly plants in Dharwad in north Karnataka and a few other cities for Nano small car, but no decision has been taken so far in this regard.

The company has about 900 acres of land in Dharwad where it has a manufacturing base for low-floor buses in collaboration with Marcopolo S.A. of Brazil. These buses are expected to be launched some time next month in Karnataka.

Tata Motors today launched the new generation of the country’s first and only fully indigenous car -- the Indica Vista at a function at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai.

Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors speaking on the occasion of the launch, “The second generation Indica Vista showcases the progress Tata Motors has made over the last several years of its first outing in the passenger car business in design, quality, technology, performance and refinement. I have no doubt that our existing and potential customers will find the new Indica Vista a significant step up over the previous generation and in line with other world class offerings in the market. The company is greatly appreciative of the endorsement by the market of our first Indica offering and I am very hopeful that the Indica Vista will surpass its predecessor in appeal.”

The all new Indica Vista has been given a complete makeover. A complete new skin houses an all new interior and the sculpted evolutionary, yet very contemporary body makes a bold styling statement. At nearly 3.8m length and 1.7m width, with a wheel base of 2470mm, the car has grown in size, mostly in the interior space. A new central character line on the hood, sharp crease lines on the door below the beltline, a honeycomb grille and striking petal shaped headlamps complement the trademark smiling grille and tall tail lights that are distinctive to the Indica.

The interiors have the instrument cluster now placed in the centre of the dashboard to enhance in-driving passenger involvement and improved driver visibility. A dual tone grey and beige interior with a pleasing soft feel grain structure on the top end version gives the car a premium touch. A two DIN CD System with a USB port and remote control enables music to be customised to one’s needs.

On comfort too, the Indica Vista has a number of unique, thoughtful touches. The height adjustable driver’s seat and the tilt-adjustable steering wheel enable better driving posture. Utility space in the floor console under the seat and the deep glove box, which can accommodate a laptop, give that extra space when needed. Tubeless tyres, a new twist beam suspension, gas filled shock absorbers, a sub-frame construction for enhanced transverse stiffness lead to better ride and drive comfort as well as improved handling. The body has a higher use of high strength steel panels for enhanced torsional and bending stiffness. Tailor welded blanks have been used for the first time to reduce weight. Thoughtful touches, like the rear wiper switching on in reverse when the front wiper is on, are many.

The car is powered by a range of internationally acclaimed powertrains - the new 75 bhp 1.3L Quadrajet Common Rail Diesel engine and the 65bhp, 1.2L CVCP Safire MPFI petrol engine being manufactured at the new Fiat-Tata joint venture at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra. The Quadrajet operates at 1400 bar with 4 injections per cycle and delivers a high torque of 190Nm over a flatter speed range for better city driving. The Safire has a continuous variable cam phaser (CVCP) for improved drivability and fuel economy and a drive by wire technology for accelerator pedal control. Both engines are mated to a new cable aided gearbox with twin synchronisers for precise shift feel and quality. It also has the option of the existing 1.4L turbocharged intercooled TDi engine which has been refined further and mated to a smooth shift gearbox.

The car comes with a segment best 24 months (75000 km) warranty and will be available in a range of 7 colors through 170 dealerships across the country which are progressively being renovated to wear a refreshed identity being rolled out. The car is being launched in 7 variants priced at Rs.3.49 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi for the 1.2L petrol Safire at the low end going upto Rs.4.88 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi for the top end 1.3L Quadrajet. The TDi version comes at nearly the same price as the outgoing existing Indica V2 version. The company will launch an ABS, Airbags execution in the domestic market at the time of the car’s debut in international markets.

The existing Indica will continue to exist with a rationalised portfolio - the lower versions of the 1.2L Xeta and the 1.4L naturally aspirated IDI diesel and one version each of the DICOR and TCIC diesel, the latter being available with ABS and Airbags. Between the existing Indica V2 and new Indica Vista range, customers will have a choice at every step of the Rs.2.6 lakhs – Rs.4.88 lakhs price range.

Here is a big news from Tata Motors India, it has leaked officially brochure of the new Indica Vista which is going to be launch on Saturday-23rd of August. It will be launch in three engine option the first 1.2L (1172 cc) CVCP SAFIRE MPFi petrol engine, second 1.3L (1248 cc) QUADRAJET Common Rail Diesel engine and third one is 1.4L (1405 cc) turbocharged intercooled TDI diesel engine. The Indica Vista’s all-new look will turn heads while the technology embedded in it turns driving into a whole new experience.

It would be bigger in size and interior space, but its contemporary styling and sharp lines give it a compact sporty look. The new petal-shaped headlamps add a dash of panache to the front and the new characteristic vertically-stacked tail lamps are unique in its class. The contemporary styling continues in the interiors. The new DIN stereo comes with a USB port and remote control. The stylish two-tone dashboard with the soft-look grain and the unique central instrument cluster draws the passengers into the driving experience.

Indica Vista is backed by a new 2-year warranty, which can be further enhanced by a 2-year extended warranty and comprehensive annual maintenance contract, Value Care for the first two years and Gold Club thereafter.

Tata, Fiat buyers to get free fuel

Tata Motors has tied up with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) to offer free petrol or diesel worth Rs 10,000 to buyers of Tata or Fiat cars in New Delhi.

“This offer allows new car customers who purchase Tata or Fiat cars to avail free fuel for up to one year,” Tata Motors said in a statement.

The promotional offer - valid in Delhi and the National Capital Region - starts today and ends on March 25.

The offer will be provided in the form of a pre-loaded HPCL “Club HP smart 1” card, usable at select HPCL outlets.

“Customers will also enjoy the benefits of the HPCL Loyalty Card Programme on purchases of products and services at these outlets,” the statement said.

Tata Motors and Fiat have a tie-up for sharing the dealership network. Tata Motors has been facing declining sales in recent times due to product fatigue. In December, Tata’s passenger car sales dropped 13 per cent to 14,316 units on a year-on-year basis.

Apart from the Safari sports utility vehicle, which reported a growth in sales, the Indica, Indigo and Sumo models saw double digit dip in sales.

Indigo sales dropped by 33 per cent in December. Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles during April-December were down 3.7 per cent at 151,136 units as well.

Shares of Tata Motors today closed at Rs 658.85 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1.22 per cent from the previous close.

Tata Motors on Wednesday launched a new version of its multi utility vehicle - Sumo Grande - priced between Rs 6.55 and 7.49 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
The company has been trying to bring in the contemporary aspect in styling and technology by infusing new features, Mr Ravi Kant, Managing Director, Tata Motors said at the 9th Auto Expo here. The vehicle will be available in the market starting next month. - PTI

Tata Motors is ready for production and the project is on schedule. The car will be exhibited for the first time to the general public in Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi.

The car will be a four-door, four to five seater car featuring a 600cc petrol engine. Recently, BusinessWeek has named Rs 1 lakh car as one of the trendsetters of 2007, while Ratan Tata has been listed among the world's "Most Important People" of the year.

The BPO cab vendors, taxi operators and tour operators are eagerly awaiting the car. lowever, the government’s permission will be mandatory to allow commercial use of the Tata Motors Rs 1-lakh car.

Let us call the One Lakh Car as OLC as its shorter to name it. The car is simple and looks better than compared to the maruti 800. A low cost car which means a hatch 4 door with a boot, and low down manufacturing costs. The car has to be made for the Indian roads, so its gotta be cheap to run, low maintainance and spare cost and enough comfort for 5 or 4. This idea was bought up almost a decade ago, in an autoshow.

Tata is adding 2 engines to the car that is the petrol 660cc and the diesel 700cc. Buying products in bulk also supports the low cost. It is a 2 cylinder engine which is also low cost. The car is rather small and a small engine with 2 cylinder, and it will be definately giving good mileage, an average of 25Kmpl has been rumoured but might come up well on the release, and even more for the diesel, that means this car gives mileage more than the Bajaj Auto. If the car dosent go well it can be used as autos too!! dont worry just kidding.. If given good mileage, this car would be given a great response, its like near the Bajaj Pulsar 220cc.

Coming to the interiors, its not been shown, looking at the height, the headroom will be enough and the width of the car shows that 4 can accomodate easily, but the fifth one gotta squeez up. The interior features would be really basic, even a music system would be doubtful, although the necessary like speed, odo and fuel meters will be present.

The performance lets keep this for the future, if we get it what will be there to write about if the car is released. But don’t expect a Fiesta out of it.
