Maruti Suzuki India will launch A-Star, the latest model in its hatchback stable, in India on November 19. According to sources in the company, "The scheduled date for A-Star launch in India is November 19." Currently it has launched its own website called http://www.marutisuzukiastar.com/. On this site you can watch some animated film, play games & some extra knowledge you can get about A-star.
A company official said that the compact car, conceived by Indian designers, would be available in three variants - LXI, VXI and ZXI. These models would priced in the range of Rs 3.85 lakh to Rs 4.75 lakh. The much awaited model would be the fifth global strategic model from Maruti Suzuki. It means that the car will be manufactured simultaneously in several countries. While the car would be sold as A-Star in India, it would available in Europe as Alto and Celerio.
The A-Star will be the latest in a series of global models that Suzuki, Maruti Suzuki's Japanese parent, has launched over the past few years and will be manufactured solely in India. In the car's export-oriented version conforms to all European norms, including End of Life Vehicle (ELV) norms. However, the cars being sold in India will not conform to these standards because India does not follow them.
Asked about the concept of environment-friendly cars, a company spokesperson said, "A-Star is basically an export-oriented car, which will have to meet ELV norms, which are applicable in Europe." "The norms set clear quantified targets for reuse, recycling and recovery of vehicles and their components. The norms push producers to manufacture new vehicles also with a view to recycle them," the official said.
"Conforming with these norms, hazardous materials like mercury, cadmium and lead are not being used for the production of the parts of the upcoming cars," the official said.
