In an effort to tap the fast-growing luxury car market, General Motors Corporation (GMC) plans to launch its rugged sporty vehicle Hummer H3 this year. This will be followed by its luxury Cadillac CTS sedan next year. Hummer H3 is currently undergoing homologation (technical testing) to meet Indian driving conditions.
“The response to Hummer in the recently concluded Auto Expo 2008 was phenomenal, encouraging us to launch it in India. Its capability to adapt to the tough Indian conditions makes it an ideal product for this market. We are also testing the Cadillac so that we are sure of its performance in India,” GM India president and managing director Karl Slym told ET.
GM is also looking at enhancing its presence in the small car volume segment and is likely to launch another compact car in the next two years to complement the existing range of Chevrolet Spark and UV-A.

General Motors has stated that they have no plans to take on Tata which is scheduled to launch their Tata Nano model this year in the Indian Market.
The US based automaker said that they would be focusing on other segments of the Indian market.
GM’s President and Managing Director, Karl Slym said in a statement: “The mini-car segment is not a segment. This includes several segments and several customers. There is no need to battle with the Rs 1-lakh car.”
