Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) will be launched Dzire in early end of March 2008, which will replace the Esteem. It is expected to tag an invitation price of about Rs 5.2-5.4 lakh onwards for the entry-level diesel model, which could be priced lower than Tata Motors’ direct injection common rail (Dicor) Indigo sedan Rs 5,28,537 (ex-showroom Delhi), currently the cheapest sedan in the market.

Other rival models are priced higher, including the MahindraRenault Logan diesel at Rs 5,61,928 (ex-showroom Delhi) and the Hyundai Verna and Ford Fiesta which cost over Rs 7 lakh. Meanwhile Dzire’s petrol variant is expected to be cheaper and could be under the Rs 5-lakh price band. According to sources in the automobile industry, Dzire, based on the Swift platform (with an added boot volume of around 400 litres), will be positioned as affordable luxury on the road.

The car will come with 1.3 litre combination of diesel and petrol engines with three trims each. Maruti has taken its premium SX4 sedan route to upload luxury features like twin front air bags, and an integrated music system in the new car. Auto temp control, alloy wheels and anti-lock brakes will come in top-end variants. The diesel variant will have a new top end ZDI variant, which is not available in the current Swift diesel line-up.
